Smart Importer for Loading Data
Smart Importer is another clever idea from our development staff to
make initial loading of !Trak-It Applicant data as fast and easy as
possible. It helps solve the problem almost every new user faces, "How
do I get my existing data into Applicant?" The way the Smart Importer
works is very simple. When you are ready to import your existing data
into Applicant, you make a selection on the Applicant Import menu that
generates a .csv template which you then open in Excel. You use your
spreadsheet software to move your existing Applicant data into the
appropriate columns, filling in as much data items as you can. When
finished you save the .csv file, go back into Applicant and import the
modified .csv file and your data is imported.
But the Smart Importer does more than just blindly import your data
into Applicant; it also validates the data as it imports. If it finds
duplicate record, a log file is created telling you which applicant
numbers were duplicates. It also validates your incoming data against
your various code tables. There are almost 100 different data elements
that get checked. In the case of user defined code fields, if the
incoming value is not already in your code table the Smart Importer
will add it and tell you which items were added. If required fields
were left empty, the Smart Importer will fill them with a default
value. So when you are done using the Smart Importer you will have an
Applicant system that is ready to use.
The Smart Importer can import data into the main applicant
screen, education, former employers, references, requisitions, skills,
